FAQs

Hello and welcome to Madison & State Fiber Co! We have assembled below a few commonly asked questions about hand dyed yarn and the policies of Madison & State Fiber Co. Have a question you don’t see the answer to? Let us know at info@madisonandstatefiberco.com and someone will get back to you within 48 - 72 hours.

What is hand dyed yarn?

Hand dyed yarn is yarn dyed in small batches without the use of machines to apply the dye to the yarn. Because of this, no two skeins of yarn dyed (even those dyed in the same pan) are exactly the same. If you are working on a project that requires more than one skein of yarn, we recommend alternating skeins every couple of rows to avoid pooling or inconsistencies on your project.

How long does it take to process an order?

By default, all orders are preorder and will have a 3-4 week turnaround time. Occasionally we have small quantities of in stock yarn on hand and may use that to fill small orders where our in stock yarn would allow for the same dye lot in a single order. From time to time we may also list specific items in the shop as ‘Ready to Ship’, if a product listing contains this note, please allow for 4-6 business days for your order to ship.

My order contains both ready to ship and preorder items, when can I expect my order?

If a single order is placed containing both ready to ship and preorder all products will be shipped with the preorder items can be fulfilled. If you would like the items shipped separately, we recommend placing two separate orders.

I placed two separate orders, can my order be combined?

Yes, your order can be combined, please send an email to info@madisonandstatefibeco.com containing both order numbers and confirming the shipping address. Unfortunately it is unlikely we will be able to refund shipping for the two separate orders, as shipping is based on order weight.

How long will the current colorways listed in the shop be available?

At this point we don’t have a specific time frame to end specific colorways. An announcement will be issued to our email list and on Instagram 2 weeks prior to discontinuing a colorway. Make sure you sign up for our mailing list and follow us on Instagram so you don’t miss these updates!

How do I wash my yarn?

We recommend hand washing your yarn or items made with your yarn in cool water with a wool wash. Lay flat to dry. While some of our bases might be superwash, we do not recommend washing in a washing machine. Given the nature of hand dyed yarn some minimal bleeding may occur on the first few washes, this is to be expected. All yarn after being dyed is rinsed thoroughly with a gentle soap until no bleeding occurs.

Have a question or issue regarding your order?

We kindly request that you email us at info@madisonandstatefiberco.com and include your order number in the subject line.  We prefer email over direct message on Instagram or Facebook for order information. Messaging requests on social media platforms are easy to miss and we may not respond timely.

Does Madison & State Fiber Co take custom orders?

It depends. If there was a previous colorway you loved or a different base than what is listed in the shop and are looking to purchase 3 or more skeins, let us know at sales@madisionandstatefiberco.com and we will evaluate whether we can meet the request on a case by case basis!

Are you accepting wholesale or retail accounts?

Yes! Please reach out to sales@madisonandstatefiberco.com to discuss stocking Madison & State Fiber Co. yarn in your shop!

Are you currently looking to partner with pattern designers?

Always! Please reach out to sales@madisonandstatefiberco.com to discuss partnering with us on an upcoming pattern!

Other items to note:

All yarn is dyed in small batches, the product photos from our social media accounts and website are samples and will not be the exact yarn you receive. Different yarn bases and fiber contents take dye differently and there will be small variations from skein to skein making all of the yarn unique! The same dye recipe and application process are used for each skein on a specific colorway.

Returns will not be accepted except in the event of an incorrect order or damaged item. There may be an occasional light spot or stray speckle, these are to be expected and are not cause for return.

Madison & State Fiber Co. is not responsible for the USPS tracking and delivery system. Please contact us, if an order has not been received within 45 days from the point of shipment to discuss options.

The yarn used by Madison & State Fiber Co is mulesing free.
